Blog 8: A subject you enjoyed studying this semester

Imagen
Hi everyone! Today I´m going to talk about a subject that I have enjoyed this semester: Interventions in Public space.  This course is presented in English. Each week we have to read a text about interventions in public space, artistic or architectural. Then, one group of two or three students, must make a power point presentation about the theme of the text and analysis the main ideas. There is another evaluation method that is the journal. The journal is like a  resume of each class that includes phrases from the lectures, images or drawings, also own reflections. The main contents are: first the definition of what is an intervention in public space, by making the difference between an architectural one. Secondly, the understanding of the modern Public Space, and finally, interventions in different scales. I like this subject, because the interventions are treated under a more sensory view, not only by analysing the space. It is like an integral method that shows you o...

Hi everyone! Today I´m going to talk about the architect Louis Isadore Kahn.     Louis Kahn was born in Estonia on 20th Frebuary of 1901 in the bosom of a humble Jewish family. He and his familiy migrated to the Unitaed States, specifically to Philadelphia. He studied architecture at the University of Philadelphia. There he was formed on the theorical bases of architecture, centered on historicism. His projects are monumental, influenced by Le Corbusier. Khan's buildings focus on material nature and light, neatness and simplicity. The library of  Phillips Exeter Academy, Exeter, EE. UU. 1965- 1972, was one of the renownest work of Louis Khan. Other is the National Assembly of Bangladesh and the First Unitarian Church of Rochester in New York.   I like him because of how he used the light on his work and also because the concept behind the structure that it is not only a building, is a composition of the form that light gives to it.   Goodbye!! Se...

How can your Major/Career make the world a better place

Imagen
Hello everyone! Today I´m going to tal abou how my career can make the world a better place. I think that Architecture has a social role, so from tha point  of view, Architecture has tools to change some aspects of the society. For example, social housing, a good urbanism plan, focused on people´s needs. I also think that we hace the power of change things. By giving our opinion, have constructive criticism, and also by taking positions, being aware of what helps the society and what empoverishes it. Something that Architecture makes to contribute to the world's benefit is that one of the main points of analysis of this career is the person. No project can set aside the person and the society, all the spaces must be thought for a comfortable life and that guarantees a healthy space for people. I think all the people can make a change, first we have to be better person and respectful of all forms of think. See you on the next blog!!

Blog 5: A photograph you like

Imagen
Hello everyone! Today I´m going to talk about  two photos that I really like.   The first photo was taken by my father to my mother on November 15, 1994.  I really love the story behind this photo, because was taken on La Serena Beach by my father. At the moment he took it, they didn't no each other. That was the first moment that they saw.  My mother Elisabeth was on an educational trip, in a seminar, but that Tuesday, she decided to go to the beach. At the same time, my father Adán preferred to go for a walk to the beach, like a little rest from takig care of a group of students on a study tour. So that was the instant that both know each other and my mother let him take that photo. The second photo shows me as a Baby Javiera. My father took this photo on May 20, 1999, when I was six months of birth. My parents and I still lived in Santiago, but a month later of this photo was taken, we moved to Coyhaique. I like this picture because I feel that I have a...

Blog 4: Meal or Food you really like

Imagen
Hi everyone! Today I´m going to talk about a meal or food that I really like. So I will talk about gnocchi, even once I said my favourite food was lasagna and spaghetti, I think I´m a pasta Lover, so in fact there is third meal that actually love: Gnocchi. This food is a type of italian pasta, are like mini cooked cylinders of pasta. Gnocchi are made with smash potatos, flour and ricota cheese. After smash the potatos, it should be mixed with the flour and salt, then knead and make strips with the dough. After that, cut the strip in mini sections and cook in water. Finally serve with cheese or tomato sauce. I like it so much, because I feel is a familiar experience to participate in the elaboration of the plate, it is not only the meal, is the memory of my chilhood making Gnocchi. Even Gnocchi aren´t junk food, probably isn´t a good idea eat it everyday, because has an important caloric value, but I think aren´t too bad like fast food. Goodbye everyone! See you on the next blog!

Blog 3: My favorite piece of technology

Imagen
Hi everyone! Today I´m going to talk about my favorite piece of technology, that is my computer. I use it everyday, to attend to my classes, to listen to music, watch youtube videos, and  do my homeworks. I think today, in pandemic time, computer is more useful for me than in a pre-pandemic era. I've had it since 2018 and it has been very helpful and practical, not only for academical activities, also for entertainment. Even the computer has been useful for me, I would like to take a rest of using it, because now it´s a tool and almost a necessity, that is a little bit tiring for my mind and my eyes too.  I would recommend it, first of all because gather many functions in one piece of technology, secondly, because now many cellphone's app, are available for computer too, so is an alternative in case the cellphone doesn't work. And for last, the computer has a bigger screen so the text and images can be seen better. I now that the computer isn´t very portable, but now we ...

Blog 2: Why did you choose this career?

Imagen
Hello everyone! Today I'm going to talk about why I choose studying Architecture. When I was about six, I decided that I wanted to be a Doctor. I liked to help people and when a classmate fell, I liked to be there trying to help, and things like that, but also I liked to read and draw. So when I was applying to the university I choosed a career that had some relation with Medicine, so I satrted with Speech Therapy, but a month later I realized that it was not for me. Anatomy and Molecular Biology were very interesting , but are sciences where almost all the things has been discovered, so there was not many space to creativity. A part of me wanted to be creative and in the other helped people, so then I discovered Architecture. Finally I decided to study Architecture, that mixes art, creative things, and also, allow helps people in numerous ways. My experience in the University until now has been good. I have met people of other regions, and some of Coyhaique like me. I am happy wi...
